Hello Fellows!
In order to address some of the needs you all have expressed, the LIU Fellows program is hosting some IEP writing Workshops. We are offering the workshop in two parts. Part one will be offered on October 28th or October 29th and will focus on the logistics of completing the IEP writing process. Part two will be offered on November 18th or 19th and will focus on how to write strong IEPs that advocate for our students. Please complete the form below to let us know if you will attend. Rethinking Schools is an Non-profit Organization committed to education for social justice. They host conferences for educators, publish a regular blog, books, and a quarterly magazine with publications from teachers and scholars. Check them out, they might be a great resource for you and your work in the classroom or a place where you want to share your thinking, stories, and experiences.
Looking for high interest, quality texts for your students? There are a ton of resources for this but we don't want to overwhelm you so check back in for more ideas, but for now, how you checked out the Young Adult Library Service Association? There are some seriously great and award winning books listed there, plus a lot of other great resources. The organization is intended to support library staff, but for those of us who have to act as our own librarians, this is a good place to start. YA Literature tends to be readable and relevant, and I know I find myself staying up late finishing books because I can't put them down. Don't just recommend to your students, get into it yourself. You'll find your conversations about texts are richer and more real (and I bet you'll like the books too).
